Bulls for votes in 2026 general elections

KATAKWI – Major (retired) Godfrey Katamba, the Resident District Commissioner of Katakwi District has advised residents of Teso and Karamoja regions to embrace the prevailing peace for economic development. In the past the region has faced insecurity due to cattle rustling that has resulted to lose of property and life. According to Maj. Katamba, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has done a lot of development in the region and whole entire country at large that it deserves to be added another term come the next general elections.
“Come 2026 elections, vote for President Yoweri Museveni, Vice President Jessca Alupo, she comes from here and other NRM candidates. We want 100 percent victory; no vote should be wasted. Every Parish that gives us 100 percent victory will get 10 bulls each,” he said.
He was speaking as chief guest at the traditional marriage ceremony of Engineer George William Opus and Juliet Ijoku at their ancestral home in Ariamareng Village, Aleles Parish Katakwi District Saturday June 29th, 2026.
Major Katamba further explains, over the years, the government has made significant strides in poverty eradication since assuming power in 1986. He said household poverty rates have notably declined and various government programs like Bonna Bagagawale, Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP), Emyoga, Parish Development Model (PDM) and Micro Scale Irrigation project have been introduced to bolster the participation of citizens in the economy.
Major Katamba says numerous government programs have been implemented to transition people from subsistence to a commercial economy. Notably, the Parish Development Model (PDM) allocated 11.7 billion shillings for the Financial Year 2023/24 and part of 2022/23 to Katakwi District. Almost all this funding, 99.5 percent, has been disbursed to the people. Additionally, Katakwi District received an extra 5.4 billion shillings for PDM.
Major Katamba advised the couple to have respect for each other for their marriage to have a test of time.
Engineer Opus hailed he RDC and several other politicians as wells as locals for gracing the occasion and promised to have their wedding in a couple of weeks.
The occasion was spiced by traditional dancing and eats.
