Chris Obore team committed to High Court

KAMPALA – The Anti-Corruption Magistrate’s Court in Kampala has committed seven Parliamentary officials to the High Court for trial over corruption.

They include; former Director of Communications Chris Obore; former Director of Human Resources Daniel Adilo; former Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker Leonard Okema, former Principal Research Officer Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu; former Principal Protocol Officer Emmanuel Emuron Okwi, and former Development Officer Vincent Otebata.

The accused persons were recently interdicted over their alleged involvement in the loss of approximately Shs26 billion.

The money was intended for corporate social responsibility activities, donations, and community engagements.

According to the Inspectorate Government (IG) whose role is to fight corruption, Obore took Shs5.2 billion, Adilo took Shs14.1 billion, Okema took Shs3.8 billion while Ssemalulu took Shs1.8 billion.

Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Parliamentary Cooperative SACCO, Mareebe Methods has also been indicted with prosecution alleging that she assisted Obore, Adilo, Kaaya, and Otebata to launder and benefit from the illicit money.

During proceedings, defense lawyer Asuman Basalirwa informed the court that he has lost contact with one of the accused, Stella Itute, and no longer represents her.

Itute was omitted from the final indictment.
