62 babies born on Christmas
Museveni for another term Christians told
NATIONAL – At least 62 babies were born in different health facilities on Christmas Day in and around Kampala.
The figures are from selected health facilities East African Vanguard visited, all the babies and the mothers were in good health. Kawempe Referral Hospital registered the highest number of babies with 48 births, Mulago Hospital had one baby girl and Entebbe Hospital had five and Kagadi Hospital registered 8 babies.
Kawempe Referral Hospital, executive director, Emanuel Byaruhanga said “Out of the 68 expectant mothers admitted, 48 deliveries normally. There was no material death, the situation was good.”
Mean Christians flocked churches to celebrate Christmas.
Vice President Jessica Alupo visited Katakwi Hospital and Katakwi Prison where she delivered gifts to mothers and inmates. St Paul Cathedral and Katakwi Baptist Church, Alupo urged Christians to live in peace and embrace government programs.
She also urged them to vote for President Yoweri Museveni come 2026.
“Museveni will be on the ballot paper in the next presidential elections, please support his candidature,” she said.
At Namirembe Cathedral, Bishop Namirembe Dioceses Moses Banja criticized corruption and urged the public to shun the evil act. Nabaagereka Sylvia Naginda, State Ministers Sam Mayanja (Lands) and Joyce Ssebugwawo attended the service.
At Rubaga Cathedral Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere decried rampant corruption and no respect for rule of law.
While at St Andrew Cathedral, Bishop Mbale Dioceses urged Christians to welcome Jesus Christ by using the Christmas holiday to reunite their families.
In attendance was National Resistance Movement, Women’s League Ms Lydia Wanyoto who advised the public to use the Parish Development Model funds to drink malwa (beer) or buy gomsi (cloth).
“Do not leave church and go to bars, go and be with your families,” he said.
At Irundu Catholic Church, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among told the congregation to promote peace, cherish the value of love and live responsibly.
“It is the festive season, please drive safely,” she said.
At St. Stephen’ Cathedral, Soroti, 100 children received confirmation on Christmas Eve.
National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi and the leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi attended Christmas mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Cathedral, Gayaza.
“I thank Father Makanga, the Parish Priest, for the warm reception and for repeating the call for justice in society. We wish you all a Merry Christmas,” Kyagulanyi twitted.
In a related development, in a Christmas message delivered by Prince David Wasajja, King of Buganda Kingdom Ronald Muwenda Mutebi warned politicians and youth against hate speech.
