BWEYOGERERE – School owners have been urged to make firefighting equipment a top priority in their infrastructure plans, as deadly fires continue to claim lives and destroy valuable property in schools across Uganda.
This renewed call follows a rise in fire outbreaks that have left students dead and facilities in ashes.
According to Ramesh Halai, Managing Director of OxyPlus Services Ltd, every school must treat firefighting systems as essential, just like classrooms and dormitories.
“You have invested millions of shillings in infrastructure like classroom blocks and dormitories, why not invest a few shillings to buy a fire extinguisher. Such interventions can share a lot,” he told East African Vanguard, after hosting students from Emirates College School Nkoowe.
Ramesh explained how learners toured the company’s production plants, gaining insights into the use of gases in industries, hospitals, businesses, and homes. Ramesh Halai OxyPlus Services Ltd
He said Halai OxyPlus Services Ltd is committed to supplying certified firefighting solutions ranging from hoses and extinguishers to alarms and suppression systems, to boost school safety and reduce fire risks.
School management at Emirates College applauded the initiative, saying the students learned valuable lessons in industrial safety and basic firefighting skills during their visit. Ambience
