KAMPALA – In a bid to promote finance literacy, Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) has handed over the savings challenge box from Deposit Protection Fund (DPF) to ABC Capital Bank.
“Through the movement of the box from one institution to another, we promote a culture of financial discipline among staff, institutions, and the public, while raising funds to support climate conscious innovation.” said Goretti Chief Executive Officer, UIBFS.
“It is a great pleasure to welcome you to this special handover ceremony, yet another key step in our journey to promote financial literacy and sustainability through the Banking and Financial Services Awareness Month (BAFSAM) campaign. This year’s campaign, held under the theme “sustainability & personal finance save, protect, grow,” has reinforced the power of saving not only as a personal financial tool, but as a collective force for community transformation. The savings challenge is at the heart of this mission,” Goretti further explains,
She hailed DPF for participation in the campaign and for its generous contribution through the box.
“Allow me to spotlight just what your contributions help make possible.
Last year, thanks to the funds raised through this very initiative, we were able to support 6 green enterprises. Of these, allow me to highlight the two that made tremendous improvements: Summit Green, which provides environmentally friendly solutions in agriculture. And also, Ento Organic, a sustainable food innovation venture. These enterprises have doubled in size and reach since receiving support from this campaign. This is a powerful reminder that every shilling saved can become a seed for sustainable change,” she further explained.

Goretti said this year, “we are excited to continue supporting such enterprises through the upcoming green awards, where we shall recognize and reward organizations and institutions that integrate Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) principles and green finance into their products, services, or operations. Your participation in the savings challenge directly fuels this initiative and pushes forward Uganda’s alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
She said as ABC Capital Bank takes on the next leg of the campaign, “I encourage each of you to engage with enthusiasm. Whether it is by saving, championing sustainability internally, or spreading the word you are part of a movement that is shifting mindsets and shaping futures. Let us remember: When we save together, we grow together.”
Patrick Onen Ezaga, Director Communications, DPF, thanked UIBFS for providing the fund an opportunity to participate in the challenge.
He handed over Shs2 million collected from fellow staff and encouraged ABC Capital Bank employees and customers to partake.
