KATABI – The former President of Uganda Medical Association, Dr Andrew Obuku, on Monday lost a son to a sad incident involving his family dog, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango told East African Vanguard.
According to a crime scene investigation report from both Kisubi and Entebbe police stations, Dr Obuku’s family dog broke out of its kennel and violently attacked his son only identified as Raphael who was in the care of a house help.
The incident happened at the family home in Canaan Estate, Mawugulu Cell in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.
According to the Police, Sharon Nuwarinda, the house help, had placed the child on the veranda as she did her other chores when the dog broke loose from its kneel.
“She saw the dog coming to attack the boy and rushed to pick him up, but the dog grabbed him first,” the police report said.
“The maid tried to struggle with the dog while making an alarm but it overpowered and bit the boy’s head badly.”
Nuwarinda also sustained a dog bite to the leg in the tragic incident in which the dog severed the boy’s head.
To the shock of the police, she revealed that the dog immediately went back to its kennel after killing the boy.
Police report that the dog has generally been hostile and tried to attack people in the neighborhood, the doctor’s gate was always locked making it hard for neighbors to rescue the situation.
Police have cautioned residents with dogs to handle them carefully after a juvenile was bitten to death by a family canine.
Police is still carrying out investigations as a postmortem report is conducted at Mulago Hospital.
