Excelled students in UCE offered bursaries

Old Kampala Senior Secondary School students who scored highly and those talented sports in the Uganda Certificate of Examination 2024 have been given bursaries.
Speaking to students during parade Wednesday February 13th, 2025, Mr John Egessa Odoki, board member Old Kampala Senior Secondary School said the successful performance of the school in the UCE 2024 released this week by Janet Museveni the First Lady who is also the Minister of Education and Sports was planned.
“We have bussaries for students who have execelled in exams and this applies to those with talent in sports like atheletic, football, volley ball and netball among others,” he said.
Out of the 175 students who sat for UCE, 171 excelled and are due to get certificates.
Headmaster Mr Arthur Mbalule attributed the success to good planning, hard work by the students, teachers and the supportive board.
“The success has not come by mistake, we planned, work had to excute the plan and with a combined effort with students, teachers and the board, we have achived good results. We also thank commissioners, the permanent secretary and most important the State Minister for Higher Education of Sport J. C Miyingo for interviening to the school’s performence that had declined due wrangles,” he said.
He urged parents to go to the school for admission as the school still has vacancies and the school fees are moderate.
“We have vaccancies give us childern early enough so that we can embark on another journey of success,” he said.
Mbalule named some of the outstanding students and urged the incoming ‘O’ Level candidates to take project work under the new curriculum with much care.
Denis Kato Dean of Students Old Kampala Senior Secondary School explained to the students the Uganda National Examination Board criteria of grading examinations in the new curriculum.
Dralu Jane Deputy Headteacher also urged the students to take care of themselves and their neighbours.
Old Kampala Senior Secondary School one of the traditional schools in the country was built by the British in 1929 to educate children of Asians. The school has produced prominent people like Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, Former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya, Gen. Moses Ali, First Deputy Prime Minister, Gen Ivan Koreta, Gen. Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works, Jim Muhwezi, Security Minister, Eria Lukwago, Kampala Mayor and Jack Sabiti, former Rukiga Member of Parliament among others.
