FUFA probes Assistant Referee Kabugo death

WANKULUKUKKU – SC Villa comprehensive victory over UPDF FC on Friday evening has been overshadowed by the sad news of the passing on of assistant referee Peter Kabugo.
Kabugo collapsed in the 73rd minute, shortly after Villa scored their fifth goal, and despite immediate efforts to rush him to a medical facility, he sadly died en route.
Medics from both teams rushed to offer first aid and an ambulance was called to rush him to hospital. Unfortunately, it was confirmed minutes later that he died on the way to the hospital.
According to a statement from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) regrets the sudden passing of Kabugo.
“A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. FUFA extends heartfelt condolences to Peter’s family, loved ones, Uganda Football Referees Association, and friends. We request privacy for the family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Peter Kabugo, “ it reads.
Charles Lwanga scored four times in the game with Aggrey Kirya adding an own goal as the Jogoos returned to winning ways ending a three-match winless streak.
Villa moved into top four on 11 points, just six adrift of leaders KCCA after match day seven while UPDF drop to 10th with 9 points. Known for his professionalism and dedication to the sport, Kabugo’s death has left a significant void in the officiating community and the broader football fraternity.
He had stepped in on short notice to officiate the match, demonstrating his commitment to the game. His untimely passing has sparked deep sorrow and reflection among players, officials, and fans alike.
As the community mourns, there are calls for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death to provide clarity and understanding.
