Invest in technology laboratories, government told

NAMAVE – Government has been requested to establish laboratories for technology research to attract more investors to venture in the manifesting sector. The call was made by Stephen Kayiwa the director, Global Paints Ltd while conducting the media around the new factory in Namave.
According Kayiwa, many people have preferred to do trading other than manufacturing which require technology research.

“Manufacturing goes hand in hand with research, government should establish laboratories for research. That is why many business people go for trading,” he told the East African Vanguards July 23rd, 2025.
He hailed government for supporting local companies under the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) policy that has created employment, increased production of goods and services as well as revenue to Uganda Revenue Authority.

“As much as we have benefited from BUBU policy, we still have challenges like import of raw materials and luck of adequate financing. We are in talks with some foreign investors to establish factories in Uganda to produce the raw material we are importing. We call on government support especially in provision of incentives,” he said.
Kayiwa called on government for more support to local companies export and also create more incentives to boost their local production.
