Museveni withdrawals top army officers from police
By Our reporter
NAGURU – President Yoweri has redeployed top-ranking officers in the Uganda Police Force removing most high-profile Uganda Peoples Defense Force officers who had occupied key positions. The army officers were deployed by the President a couple of years ago citing underperformance by the Police’s top management.
It is not clear why President Museveni has recovered the army officers, but the opposition has accused the President of militarizing the police to harass them.
“We wish to inform the public, that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda and the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces has made the following appointments and redeployments in and from the Uganda Police Force,” reads a statement by SCP Fred Enanga, Press and Public Relations Officer, Uganda Police Force on Saturday 18th May 2024.
Enanga said all other affected police officers, will be reassigned to other duties by the new Inspector General of Police.
“The entire police fraternity would like to congratulate all newly appointed officers, whose background in law enforcement and policing, will enable them to effectively lead, the men and women of the Uganda Police Force, and promote top-quality policing, as they continue to secure our country and make all people feel safe. We are confident they will embrace the changes necessary to bring out the best from the dynamic and committed workforce of the police,” said.
Adding,” We also want to congratulate the outgoing team, for their dedicated public service and enormous contribution to the UPF. They will continue to remain our ambassadors and leave behind a legacy and team of leaders, ready to continue serving the UPF. We wish all of them, the best in their new assignments.”
