DODOMA: The Tanzanian government said it is committed to strengthen economic diplomacy in promoting investment, trade, tourism, education and employment opportunities so as to position itself as Eastern and Southern Africa’s business hub.
Presenting the Ministry’s budget estimates for the 2026/2027 financial year in Parliament on May 26, 2026, Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, said the ministry had recorded notable achievements through the implementation of the country’s Foreign Policy of 2001, 2024 Edition.
Kombo said Tanzania’s international image and diplomatic standing had continued to improve, contributing to stronger bilateral and multilateral cooperation with friendly nations and international organisations.
He noted that enhanced bilateral relations had helped facilitate access to financial resources, technology transfer, expertise and opportunities arising from agreements and memoranda of understanding signed with partner countries.
According to the minister, Tanzania has also strengthened regional cooperation through the implementation of integration programmes and protocols that support the country’s economic, political and social interests.
He further said Tanzania remained actively engaged in global initiatives requiring collective international action, including climate change, environmental protection, clean cooking energy, disease outbreaks and transnational crime.
Speaking on economic diplomacy achievements during the 2025/2026 period, Kombo said Tanzania participated in the Tanzania-US Business and Investment Forum held in 2025, where investors expressed interest in the health, tourism and energy sectors.
The minister added that the government would continue improving protocol and consular services in line with the Vienna Convention while coordinating engagements with diplomats, regional bodies and international organisations to unlock new cooperation opportunities and strengthen global partnerships.
